P L A Y

At TinniWeeny preschool, we heavily emphasise on providing children with various opportunities to learn through purposeful play to allow them to explore, develop creative thinking and become more confident and curious learners. Play shapes values in children such as resilience through problem solving, patience and care when interacting with peers. Play also essential in developing children holistically in all physical, emotional, social and cognitive domains.

Water Play

Water play can be conducted both indoors and outdoors. In the picture above, the child is using a handmade fishing rod and using its hook to fish laminated fish printouts. Scooping, transferring and splashing water enables younger ages to enhance eye-hand coordination and strengthen small muscle control.

sand play

Digging with shovels, filling buckets with sand, using fingers to sculpt and shape sand enhances children’s fine motor skills and enhances collaborative play when playing with one another.

dramatic

play

When children dress up and embody the characteristics of someone or something else through roleplay, they are empowered to behave differently and learn to express themselves in countless ways based on their imaginations and interpretations. Dramatic play also helps to relieve emotional tension within children by giving them a platform and outlet to release their overwhelming emotions inside.

puppet play

As we want to instil good habits of recycling in children, most of children’s puppets are made using recycled materials. As you can see the picture, children make their own puppets and will use them for storytelling sessions. Puppet play is a great way for them to do perspective taking, enhance emotional expression and regulation and creative thinking through imaginations.
