Theme for the semester (July - August) : Nature - Plants

The Kindergarten 2s are getting more hands on and creative these days as they transit into a higher level of learning whereby they are able to do and understand more by themselves. This term, we focused their learning on plants and the nature around them. Learning becomes more hands on and practical for them as they take part in activities like growing their own plants and going on field trips to discover more about things around them.

From this video, modelling and demonstration is observed when the teacher showed examples on how to pick up the leaves on the floor and gave clear verbal instructions to the children. During the demonstration, the teacher gave sufficient time for children to observe and listen to the instructions, doing so allows children to pick up new skills and techniques (Allington & Cunninghan, 2010).

After the children were done with picking up the leaves from the ground, Teacher gathered them as a group and gave feedback. She described what the children has done earlier on and praised them for following the instructions (MacNaughton & Williams, 2009).Scaffolding is also shown when the teacher help one of the child to learn how to spell the word ‘boat’, by using letter sounds to form the word. The teacher provided temporary guidance and support for the child by giving hints and sounding out the letters of the word ‘boat’. (NAEYC, 2013).
